France Coast - Avranches to the Loire Valley

As you walk around the cobbled streets of Avranches you see that it is steeped in history. Its origins go back to the 9th Century BC when the Celts occupied the area. After the Gallic Wars it became a Gallo-Roman capital until the Saxons then French incursions around the 8th Century AD. For more than a thousand years Bishops were the most important people living in Avranches. This street, Rue de Lille, was mostly home to Canons and the Clergy.
